Apple is expected to host a major launch event in late October 2024, marking the beginning of its M4 chip upgrade cycle for the Mac lineup. At this event, Apple could unveil the MacBook Pro M4, a new 24-inch iMac, a redesigned Mac mini, and a next-generation iPad mini. These products are anticipated to bring significant improvements in performance, design, and connectivity.
MacBook Pro M4: Enhanced Performance and Design
The upcoming MacBook Pro M4 is expected to feature major upgrades, focusing on performance, connectivity, and design. One of the key updates is that all configurations will likely come with a minimum of 16GB of RAM, up from the 8GB seen in the base M3 model. Additionally, the new M4 chip will boast a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU, offering a substantial performance boost compared to the M3 chip.
In terms of connectivity, the base-level MacBook Pro M4 may include three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an improvement from the two ports found in previous models. Design-wise, the Space Black color option, previously limited to high-end models, could be available in the base version of the M4 lineup.
iMac 24-inch: Powerful Performance with M4 Chip
The next-generation iMac 24-inch is also set to receive notable upgrades with the M4 chip, featuring a 10-core CPU, which would significantly enhance performance. Memory options will likely start at 16GB RAM, with configurations offering up to 32GB RAM for users who need more power.
High-end iMac variants could see improvements in port configurations, featuring up to four Thunderbolt ports. Additionally, the new iMac may support Wi-Fi 7, enhancing connectivity. Accessories like the Magic Mouse, Keyboard, and Trackpad are expected to switch from Lightning to USB-C to align with Apple’s transition to this standard.
Mac mini 2024: A Complete Redesign with M4 Chip
The Mac mini 2024 will undergo a complete redesign, marking its first major update since 2010. The new Mac mini is expected to be significantly smaller, similar in size to the Apple TV, but possibly taller than its predecessor.
The Mac mini 2024 will skip straight to the M4 chip, with options for both M4 and M4 Pro configurations. The M4 Pro version will offer more unified memory and additional GPU cores for users seeking higher performance. In terms of connectivity, the new Mac mini may come with up to five USB-C ports (three on the back, two on the front), alongside HDMI, a headphone jack, and Ethernet.
iPad mini 2024: Performance Boost with A18 Chip
The next-generation iPad mini is also expected to make its debut at the event, boasting a major performance upgrade with the A18 chip, similar to the one used in the iPhone 16 series. The iPad mini 2024 could feature a landscape front camera and support for the Apple Pencil Pro, making it a more versatile option for creatives and note-takers.
